How to share your first recipe on Foodtok, step by step
Everything you need to post your first halal recipe on Foodtok, from the six-digit email code to the “Analyze and publish” button.
You have a dish everyone asks you about. Here is how to post it on Foodtok, the recipe community inside Halal Food, so people in other countries can cook it too. It takes about five minutes.
1. Create your account
Open the Foodtok tab, tap Sign in, then “New here? Create an account”.
- Enter your email address and a password of at least 6 characters, twice.
- Choose a flag: your country, or an international flag such as the African Union or the United Nations.
- Tap “Continue with email code”. You receive a six-digit code by email: enter it within 10 minutes and tap “Verify and create account”.
2. Set up your profile
Open your profile and tap Edit profile. Add a picture, a display name and a short bio about the dishes you cook. People see this when they tap your name on one of your recipes, and your flag counts for your country on the leaderboard.
3. Write the recipe
Tap the + button to open Create a recipe.
- The recipe name and the photo are optional. You can crop the photo when you choose it, so keep the plate in the centre.
- Write one action per step, for example “Fry the onions in oil until golden.” A new step field appears as soon as you type in the last one.
- Don’t write an ingredient list: AI reads your steps and finds the ingredients itself. Put the quantities in the steps: “Add 2 cloves of garlic.”
- All the steps together can be up to 5,000 characters.
4. Choose the language and corrections
The recipe language starts as the app language; change it if you write in another one. Tick “Let AI correct spelling and wording mistakes” if you want your text cleaned up before it goes online.
You can leave the screen at any time: your draft is saved on your phone and is waiting when you come back.
5. Publish
Tap “Analyze and publish”. The photo is uploaded, AI identifies the ingredients, and a moment later you see your recipe with its AI-detected ingredients. It is now in the feed, with the ingredients first and the numbered cooking steps below.
After publishing
- Readers can translate your recipe into their language with one tap, so write in the language you are most comfortable with.
- Likes, comments and new followers appear on your Foodtok activity page.
- You can delete your post from its menu whenever you want.
Tips for a recipe people will actually cook
- A photo of the finished dish in daylight catches the eye in the feed.
- Give times and temperatures: “Bake for 25 minutes at 180 °C.”
- Say where the dish comes from: Foodtok readers love discovering other cuisines.
